Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
be acceptable in your sight,
O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.
-Psalm 19:14
After last night's prayer, I can't yet step away from the love of God's Word. I opened up to Psalm 19 today, and I couldn't read anything beyond it. When I ask God to encourage and guide, he is faithful. I want to know his Word, so that I may know him. And here is this chapter full of Scripture directing me right back to the perfection of God's law. Verses 7-11 speak of how right and pure and sure his Word is. It revives us; it enlightens us.
I began praying through these verses, asking God to let me grow in viewing his Word this way. I want to trust the perfection of his Truth and the joy it brings. Praying through this chapter felt like I was making a commitment to God and to his Word. I will accept it as perfect truth; I will desire it more than all other treasures or luxuries. I want to see your commands this way, Father.
And then the chapter wraps up with this short, breath of a prayer from David. Let all that I say or do or think be pleasing to you, Lord. May the way I view your Word be pleasing and acceptable in your sight. May I trust you more as I spend time in your Word, and may I know you more fully through that time. Nothing else stands like you do, God, my Rock. Your truth lasts, it endures. And nothing else makes right what has been unclean and unbearable. You redeem us - you welcome us to yourself.
My desire is to love your Word, to trust it and obey it. And while you teach me, let my words, my thoughts, and my emotions be pleasing to you. For you are my rock and my redeemer. You are trustworthy. Thank you for the gift of your Word, Father. Thank you for your Word incarnate.
Amen.
